Vacancy

Norwalk Easter Public Library Trustee Opening

We are seeking interested applicants to serve as a Trustee for the Norwalk Easter Public Library Board of Trustees. The library is seeking dedicated individuals who have a passion for public libraries and the ability to effectively advocate for them. This is a volunteer/unpaid position and will fill out a vacancy for a two-year term.

Please see the City of Norwalk’s webpage for more information and application: https://www.norwalk.iowa.gov/government/boards_commissions___committees/index.php

Serving on the Library Board is a significant commitment. It includes, at a minimum, preparing for and attending monthly meetings which generally run between 1-2 hours in length.  During substantial projects (like building projects or strategic planning), there may be more frequent meetings, as well as enhanced expectations around participation in committees or workgroups.

The returns are also considerable.  Being part of the Board of Trustees puts you in a position to help guide the Library forward through influencing the strategic plan, budgeting practices, evaluating the Director, and representing the library in our community.

If this sounds like a fit for you, consider observing a Board meeting, reaching out to a current Board member or the Library Director with questions, or reading past meeting minutes online at https://www.norwalklibrary.org/library-board-of-trustees/

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and reside in Norwalk’s city limits.  You do need to be willing to learn; work as part of a team; make decisions about library policies, initiatives, and budgets; and advocate for the Library in the community.

Please contact Library Director Jean Strable for further information at jstrable@norwalk.iowa.gov or 515-981-0217.
